SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Spartanburg Day School Girls' Swim Team clinched the SCISA Region 1 Title Monday evening at Converse College with a total of 124 points. Oakbrook Preparatory School came in 2nd (103 points) and Shannon Forest Christian School in 3rd (26 points).
The Girls' had six, first place finishes including the 200 Yard Medley Relay and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. Eighth grader Camryn Wilson tallied two, first place finishes with one in the 200 Yard Individual Medley and the second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Freshman Emily Grace Cobourn had a great showing as well with a first place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle and a second place finish in the 100 Yard butterfly. Susannah Lyon, a junior, also played a big role in the Region win with a first place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle and a second place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle.
The Griffins 200 Yard Medley relay team, which included Lyon, Wilson, Cobourn, and eighth grader Madeline Becker, beat Oakbrook by almost three seconds in event 1. The SDS girls team would continue the streak of first place finishes through event 7 and end the meet with a huge win by the 400 Yard Freestyle relay team, which included junior Rachel Summers, Cobourn, Lyon, and Wilson.
First year coach Will Ericson said, "The girls have worked hard all year and it's exciting see it pay off with another Region championship."

Both teams are looking to contend for a SCISA State Championship on Saturday, October 13th at the Augusta Aquatic Center in Augusta, Georgia. The girls are looking to defend a 6 year streak as SCISA state champions.
