          Kristy Belcher
          3K assistant

          Ms. Kristy has been working with preschool-aged children for more than 20 years. She joins us from St. Paul United Methodist Church Preschool where she's been teaching 2- and 3-year-olds. Ms. Kristy has a degree in early childhood/psychology from Stanley Community College in North Carolina and is currently pursuing a bachelors in early childhood education from Converse College. She has four children and three grandchildren and loves to cook, make crafts and spend time outside with family and friends.

          Sydney Blue
          Upper School math

          Ms. Blue joins the Upper School mathematics department teaching Algebra II. She graduated cum laude from Presbyterian College with a double major in physics and music (voice), and a minor in mathematics. She brings an impressive background of research in granular physics. Ms. Blue brings with her an appreciation for the nurturing environment an intimate academic setting offers. Having worked closely with professors and peers in research settings, she values the creativity that can come from collaboration and the support of colleagues. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading and writing/playing music.

          Callie Cable
          human resources manager

          Ms. Cable joins our business office as human resources manager. Most recently she worked as the HR manager at Ply Gem Siding in Gaffney and also with her own HR consulting company since 2011. Her background includes a wealth of experience in HR, benefits and recruiting and also a year as a day care director. Ms. Cable has a masters in business administration from Southern Wesleyan University and bachelors degrees in both management and secondary education from Clemson University. She and her husband Eric have two children who will be students at SDS this year: Merri Elizabeth (4th) and Drennan (1st).

          Bridgette Cochran
          Middle School volleyball coach

          Experienced coach Bridgette Cochran will lead our Middle School volleyball program this year. Coach Cochran currently works with the volleyball program at Upward Stars Upstate and previously served as the head varsity volleyball coach at Willard High School in Ohio. She works as a manufacturing supervisor for LSC Communications and has a bachelor of science in education from Bowling Green State University. Coach Cochran is passionate about working with the individual student-athlete with the goal of advancing their personal bests.

          Dr. Tyler Jack
          Upper School science

          Dr. Jack joins the Upper School faculty as a part-time science instructor (Human Physiology). Dr. Jack is a chiropractic physician in Spartanburg. In addition to his private practice, he has served as an adjunct faculty member at Wofford College and Greenville Tech. A native of western Pennsylvania, Dr. Jack played college baseball at Clarion University. Dr. Jack has a keen awareness of the foundational concepts needed for college level study, while possessing the hands-on experience necessary for the application of that foundational knowledge. Additionally, having been a collegiate student-athlete (as well as working with them), he understands well the value of balance in holisitic education.

          Joy Keith
          fourth grade teacher

          Ms. Keith joins the Lower School team after spending the last year teaching fifth grade just down the street at Drayton Mills Elementary School. Prior to that, she spent three years overseas, teaching ESL to first through sixth graders in Taiwan. She also taught fifth grade at Campobello Gramling School. Ms. Keith graduated from Converse College in 2014 with a BA in elementary education. Ms. Keith is a life-long learner and risk taker, two meaningful qualities that make her a wonderful fit as an inquiry-based teacher. She gets to know students personally and challenges them to go further in their learning. She is an engaging teacher and inspires children to set goals for their learning. Welcome, Ms. Keith!

          Danielle Moore
          Discovery assistant

          Ms. Danielle has worked in several preschool settings with 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds and enjoys helping students gain independence and learn new skills. Most recently, she served as a pre-primary assistant at Montessori Academy of Spartanburg. She graduated from Greenville Technical College with a certificate as a CNA.

          Trey Roehl
          third grade teacher

          Mr. Roehl joins us from Greenbrier Elementary School in Greenville where he most recently taught third grade, but also first and fourth. He began his career in education in 2009 at the Sas Al Nakhal School in the United Arab Emirates, teaching English, math and science to non-English speaking first graders. Mr. Roehl earned a bachelor's in elementary education from the University of South Carolina Upstate. Mr. Roehl's philosophy of education aligns succinctly with the philosophy of teaching and learning in the Lower School. He cares deeply about children and their school experience and is skilled in ways to engage and challenge students. He comes highly recommended and is known for his relationship building with children and skill in differentiation. He loves gardening, gymnastics and martial arts. Welcome, Mr. Roehl!

          Tim Teel
          3K assistant

          Mr. Tim is expanding his role at SDS next year to spend mornings as a 3K assistant teacher and continue working in our Extended Day program in the afternoons. He and his wife Nickole are parents to three Lower School students, McKinley (kindergarten), Skylar (3rd) and Camden (3rd). Mr. Tim has a bachelor's in industrial engineering from NC State and previously worked as an engineer and supervisor. He has a demonstrated passion for teaching and working with children.

          Peter Terry
          Middle School Latin, Upper School German

          Mr. Terry joins the Day School with a wealth of experience in independent schools, having taught and coached at the Summit School (Winston-Salem, NC) and the Flint Hill School (Oakton, VA). He is a graduate of Middlebury College, earning degrees in German and Political Science. Peter is fluent in German, Spanish, French, and Latin. He will teach Latin 7 and Latin 8 in the Middle School, while also introducing German I to the Upper School curriculum. Former colleagues have shared that Mr. Terry is, "unequivocally, a superb teacher. He is well-liked by students and staff alike for his gentle humor and humble spirit and students found his foreign language classes lively, creative and stimulating." We are thrilled to have him join us.

          Aimee Woodin
          3K teacher

          Ms. Aimee has a passion for preschool education, and has been working with children for 17 years. Most recently, she taught preschool students at the Goddard School of Simpsonville and before that at the Goddard School of South Kingstown in Rhode Island. Ms. Aimee has a bachelors and masters of music therapy from State University of New York at New Paltz. Ms. Aimee brings an infectious joy to preschool with her bright smile and loving demeanor. Her love of teaching preschool-aged children through music creates an environment of engagement and happiness. She values the whole child and instilling independence in children. We cannot wait for her to use her background in music therapy as an added bonus to our program. Ms. Aimee enjoys running and hiking with her 1-year-old daughter and husband. Welcome, Ms. Aimee!

          Sidni Yelman
          Discovery teacher

          Ms. Sidni joins our preschool team from The Island School in Johns Island where she's been teaching 2- and 3-year-olds for the last four years. She taught in the Charleston area for 35 years, mainly working with early childhood-aged students. She has a bachelor's in early childhood and elementary education from the University of South Carolina. Ms. Sidni is an energetic, experienced teacher, and children are drawn to her. She is nurturing and in tune with children and their ranging developmental levels. We are thrilled to welcome her expertise to our preschool program.
